Helping your child hear the last sound in a word.
Most of the reading club students have mastered beginning sounds. So, here the next step, hearing the final/ending sounds of a word. Below are a few activities (games)
you can do with your child that will help them understand ending sounds.
· Cut out pictures in magazines or newspaper. Help your child decide the last sound in each picture. Then your child can sort the pictures by ending sounds.
· Say to your child: “What’s the sound that ends these words, take, back, rock?”
· Say to your child: “Does dog and leg end the same?” Say to your child: “ Who’s name in our family ends with a /n/ sound.
I know these things seem simple, however the children just need to begin thinking about how words end as well as how they begin. You can make up your own words. Do some of these activities in your car on the your way home. Make it like a game and have fun.
